Tesla CEO Elon Musk says an announcement is coming Thursday that will end "range anxiety" for drivers of electric vehicles.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk says an announcement is coming Thursday that will end “range anxiety” for drivers of its electric vehicles.

Tesla is scheduled to announce an update to the operating system of its Model S electric car that CEO Elon Musk says, will end “range anxiety” for drivers.

Range anxiety is something many electric car buyers say they feel. It's the fear of not making it to their destination before the charge runs out, and not being able to recharge the vehicle.

Musk tweeted Sunday, “About to end range anxiety … via OTA software update. Affects entire Model S fleet.”

Tesla has tried to cure some of the anxiety with the addition of hundreds of quick-charging stations around the country, but they are still few and far between.

Tesla is able to wirelessly update its car’s operating systems, and some speculate the update will help optimized battery life or feature a new power saving mode.

The announcement is planned for 9AM PDT, Thursday, March 19th.
