| AC motors are generally used in constant speed applications and rated in horsepower. They are specified at a particular speed while delivering a certain horsepower. When specifying a 1 hp AC motor, for example, this means the motor must operate at 1,800 RPM and deliver 35 lb–in. of torque. In these applications, time to speed usually is not a concern. Power is applied and the motor rotates. Whatever time it takes to get to speed is accepted. Fast starting is not a concern. |
