Lightweight Torque Wrench Pump

Enerpac introduces the new TQ700 Lightweight Torque Wrench Pump, featuring unique Optimized Flow Technology. This new pump delivers up to 50 percent faster bolting than traditional torque wrench pumps of equal size. The TQ700 improves the flow rate across the entire bolting cycle. With more oil flowing at the right time and at the right volume, Optimized Flow Technology consists of three separate oil flow stages, each maximized for a distinct portion of the bolt tightening process. The first stage flow allows more oil to be used when free-turning the nut onto a stud, instead of depositing it to the tank. Stage two begins when a stud starts to elongate and the rotation of the nut decreases, permitting the TQ700 to get the same amount of work out of less flow, while reducing the heat generated. This cooler operation results in longer pump life. As the rotation of the elongated bolt slows even more, the TQ700 enters the third stage flow until the nut tightens and the proper torque level is achieved. Less oil and heat are wasted throughout the bolting process and the job is completed faster.

Built off the successful Z-class platform, the TQ700 has been specifically engineered to meet the demanding torque applications in the wind turbine industry, in addition to general bolting applications. The structural components of the pump incorporate lightweight and durable aluminum with a compact footprint that easily fits through wind turbine door hatches or other small spaces. It is ideal for torque applications in remote, low-powered or generator-powered erection sites, as well as on the factory floor. “While the TQ700 Lightweight Torque Wrench Pump is perfect for multiple wind turbine applications, such as rotor assembly and tower segment attachment, it can also be successfully employed in the oil and gas industry, mining applications and other industrial bolting functions,” said Brian Alexander, Global Product Manager - Pumps & Valves at Enerpac. The TQ700 has a streamlined feature set that keeps training to a minimum and increases work teams’ productivity. The pump comes standard with a roll cage and includes additional side panels for added protection of the internal and ancillary components. The integrated handle, for transportation around the work site, doubles as a hoisting point. A side storage location for cords is also contained in the roll cage to protect the cable during storage and transportation. Additionally, the 20-foot (6 m) pendant for motor control allows for user mobility on the job site.

The pump includes a calibratable 4-inch (10 cm) diameter gauge with a polycarbonate shield, providing it with an extra level of protection. The gauge has been mounted on an easy-to-read angle. Strategically placed for easy access, large knobs for flow control and an adjustable relief valve make set-up and adjustment user-friendly, even with gloved hands. Designed for continuous operation, the 1 HP advanced IEC motor draws low amps so it will not slow down when running off the variable voltage from field generators. The motor also has a high voltage tolerance and will not burn out when faced with voltage spikes or voltage drops caused by long extension cords. The pump provides quiet operation at 82-85 dBA, and low maintenance due to the brushless motor design.

Floor Level Cabinet Oven

No. 900 is a gas-heated 350°F(~176.67°C) floor level cabinet oven from Grieve, currently used for drying polycarbonate plastics. 100,000 BTU/HR is installed in a modulating natural gas burner and workspace dimensions are 36” wide x 36” deep x 60” high.

The oven has 4” insulated walls and a 750 CFM, 3/4-HP recirculating blower provides vertical airflow to the oven. Safety equipment, such as a 325 CFM, 1/3-HP powered force exhauster, is included as required by IRI, FM and the National Fire Protection Association Standard 86 for gas-heated equipment. The oven also features shelf supports on 3” vertical centers that are rated 200 lb. per level for a 1000 lb. maximum oven load.

Controls onboard No. 900 include a recirculating blower airflow safety switch, digital indicating temperature controller and a manual reset excess temperature controller with separate contactors.

Linear Digital Measuring Device

Specialty Motions, Inc. has developed a simple but elegant method for measuring long-length materials such as linear shafting, carbon fiber tubing, wire cables or long sheets of wood, metal, cording or plastic in a variety of diameters and shapes. In its standard form, the Linear Digital Measuring Device (LDMD) is designed to measure materials, in any increment, up to lengths of 465” and is consistently accurate to within .003” at 12’. Utilizing the easy to read Digital Readout the LDMD is extremely easy to use and versatile. A durable and rugged precision measuring tool, the LDMD operates on a highly efficient linear recirculating ball bushing bearing arrangement, where straight-line travel as well as pitch, roll and yaw are kept to a minimum to ensure accuracy within .003”. This digital measuring tool operates in much the same way as a machinist digital caliper. The LDMD can be zeroed by sliding the carriage to the “home” position and touching a button on the digital readout (DRO). The unit is now set at zero. To measure, slide the carriage away from “home” to allow the work piece into position, then return the carriage, allowing the unique articulating tooling arm feature to make contact with the end of the work piece.

The DRO gives you a length dimension in large, easy-to-read numbers to the fourth decimal place, much like a very large caliper that has machine-tool accuracy. The DRO can be switched on the fly to display in inches or millimeters. It is capable of absolute and/or incremental readings, allows for an offset for end-of-arm tooling adjustments and has linear and segmented error compensation capabilities. The DRO uses an RS232 connection method for data acquisition and remote PC features and printing. The DRO is expandable to accommodate multiple axes of motion, if desired, such as to automate the optional MDS stand or rolling table. “We took our knowledge of linear motion and combined it with our knowledge of encoding and created a machine-tool quality measuring device,” said Tom Corey, SMI President. “The Linear Digital Measuring Device came from our own need to precisely measure long lengths easily, quickly and accurately on the shop floor, under harsh and varying conditions. After looking at the market and finding nothing to meet our demanding needs, we created the LDMD to be easy to use, adaptable, rugged and reliable.” The patent-pending LDMD is constructed using a proprietary extrusion for rigidity and consistent thermal expansion properties. Simple mounting options allow it to be used horizontally, vertically or laterally and can operate at high traverse speeds up to six feet per second without skipping count. The IP67-rated encoder is fully submersible, shock-resistant and can be used in harsh environments.

The linear encoder is also designed to minimize the effects of thermal expansion and will grow linearly along with the extrusion to minimize twisting, bowing and distorting of other scales and systems. The robust carriage and rail arrangement make it very durable and adaptable. With no contact or wear items, LED’s or glass scales to break or burn out, the linear encoder requires no cleaning or maintenance and offers a long life. An unlikely out-of-adjustment condition can be quickly resolved using gauge standards and/or laser positioning and adding error compensation adjustments. Each linear encoder is serialized, and SMI offers traceability to ISO 10012-1 offering machine-tool quality results. Highly versatile, the LDMD comes with a unique quick-change tooling arrangement featuring precision end plates and tooling pin locators. As well, optional articulating tooling arms, V-block adapters and custom tooling are available. The LDMD can also be mounted an optional rolling table or stand to allow for quick and easy setup from job to job. The stand can be automated with lift tables and foot-pedal controls, allowing adaptability for large- and small-diameter work pieces.

Liquid Level Controller

Gizmo Engineering introduces the world’s most compact liquid level controller. If mounts directly on your tank with a 2” NPT thread for very easy installation. A 10 foot long piggyback cord allows you to simply plug in your pump which eliminates any cumbersome wiring installation. Built for corrosive, wet environments, it will survive in the most aggressive environments. Polypropylene wetted materials. The liquid level is maintained automatically between a high and low float switch which cycles your pump on and off. If for any reason the level gets too high, a third float switch dedicated for emergencies, triggers the high-visibility flashing beacon light, and very loud buzzer. The unique design protects the float inside the pipe so it can never get stuck, jammed or trapped.

An optional screen keeps out debris and solids for very dirty liquids. These have even been used successfully in sewage tanks! Float guards can be removed for inspecting or cleaning the floats if necessary. Adjusting the working depths of the high and low level control points is done instantly with no tools using convenient thumbscrews. Simply slide each pipe to desired depth. Different operation modes such as filling or emptying behavior, alarm test button, pump test, snooze alarm and optional wireless communication, are included and can be set in the field. All this is inside the compact enclosure. Different mounting options such as plates or brackets make this suitable for lift stations, sumps, or tanks - anywhere a liquid needs automatic level control.

Industrial Infrared Heater

Radiant Energy Systems introduces a newly engineered industrial infrared heater that combines infrared with air for use in diverse types of manufacturing environments. The new SFA-Q Heater is a stamped foil element heater with a quartz plate in front of the elements. The plate allows infrared energy to pass through to the product while ensuring the heater remains isolated from the process. The inclusion of flowing air cools the quartz plate and internal heater components while simultaneously pressurizing the heater. This pressurization and purging ensures contaminates do not enter the heater housing nor become exposed to the heating elements.

The SFA-Q elements heat up and respond quickly to different set points. Additionally, SFA-Q needs less cool-down time than a typical Quartz Face Heater. The SFA-Q Heater is modular, similar to Radiant Energy Systems’ standard SFA Heaters (stamped foil with air aiding the infrared heat). It is energy efficient— the end product absorbs more energy allowing the line to run faster.

This new heater is specifically designed for operating within difficult environments like solvent or dusty applications and corrosive atmospheres. The pressurization prevents contaminates from contact with the heater elements. Additionally, the SFA-Q Heater can also be placed within many classifications of clean room environments.
