| Watt-Flex® Cartridge Heaters
Because of their unique split-sheath design, Watt-Flex® cartridge
heaters expand when energized, to maximize bore contact and heat
transfer. When de-energized, the heaters contract uniformly for easy,
warranted removability. Continuous coil construction ensures a uniform
temperature profile; permits a hot-tip option; and eliminates cold
sections, warping, and bore seizures. With better heat transfer,
Watt-Flex heaters run cooler internally and last up to 5 times longer
than conventional heaters.
To accurately monitor temperature-critical processes such as molding
heat-sensitive resins, Watt-Flex heaters can be ordered with an external
groove that accommodates a replaceable needle-type thermocouple. The
movable thermocouple can be positioned to allow temperature measurement
at any point along the heater sheath.
Manufactured to customer-specified lengths and electrical ratings,
Watt-Flex heaters are available in diameters from ¼” to 1” with
operating temperatures to 1700° F. Available leads include flexible
stainless-steel hose or braid to protect against frequent flexing and
abrasion, straight or right-angle headers, threaded post terminals,
extra-long leads, high-temperature leads, fiberglass or silicon-rubber
sleeving, an internal ground wire, and a Quick Disconnect lead with a
convenient male plug. Mounting variations include stainless-steel
flange, mounting bracket, NPT fitting, and puller end plug. --- Dalton

| Bimba Cooks Up Rate Control Solutions
A manufacturer of commercial food preparation equipment looked to Bimba to replace an existing, commercially available dampening mechanism in
their fast food grill closure. The grill's clamshell top is designed to
open automatically when the cooking process is complete, using
heavy-duty die springs with dampening cylinders to retard the motion and
provide a smooth, safe opening.
The original dampening solution was prone to leakage and failure,
forcing service personnel to disassemble a significant portion of the
grill to replace the defective cylinder. With only this knowledge, the
solution seemed simple--replace the defective cylinders with longer
lasting ones. But after digging deeper, Bimba uncovered the real
problem--premature spring fatigue.
By speaking with repair and maintenance crews, Bimba discovered that the
springs weakened over time, affecting the amount of rate control
required by the dampener, eventually causing failure.
Armed with these insights, Bimba provided a food-grade, oil-filled, rate
control cylinder with a needle flash valve arrangement inside a closed
loop circuit that could compensate for spring fatigue over time. This
solution allowed the ultimate orifice size to be easily adjusted with
the turn of a screwdriver, controlling fluid flow and ultimately the
amount of dampening.
