Trade Group: Shipments of Motion-Control Products Fell in 2012

Shipments of motion-control products declined by 1 percent in 2012, according to new statistics released by the Motion Control Association.

However, fourth-quarter shipments were up year-over-year, according to the industry trade group.

"Additionally, polls of our member companies show optimism that shipments will increase over the next six months, which is a good sign," said Jeff Burnstein, president of the trade group.

Alex Shikany, director of market analysis for the Motion Control Association, asserted that last year's results "were in large part a reflection of shocks to the global economy in 2012, such as the eurozone crisis."

"We saw single-digit contraction in motion controllers, electronic drives, AC drives, motors and support services," Shikany said in a news release.

"Conversely, AC motors, actuators and mechanical systems, and sensors and feedback devices all posted positive single-digit growth."
