When it comes to improving performance and cutting costs in warehouses and distribution centers, working faster isn't the ultimate solution.

Sure, working faster can't hurt. But leveraging optimization methods "to plan for and organize the picking process can yield far greater benefits," asserts Jack Peck, a professor emeritus in the Computer Science Department at Clemson University.
