Using market analysis and direct input from their customer base, Cortec developed their "best in class" corrosion protection and H-1 lubricant, CorrLube Food Grade Penetrant.
"Our product development selection process is a combination of market analysis, and direct input from our customers. We feel that the voice of the customer is a vital part of the development process, and we are a very customer-oriented organization. We identified this product category (H-1 Lubricants) as an area of need for our company, and had similar feedback from our customer base," explains Cliff Cracauer, vice president of sales.
NED: How is this lubricant different from others being offered?
CC: The difference can be found in our core technology. As a manufacturer of corrosion inhibitors, we focus all of our product development on being best-in-class for corrosion protection ability. There has been an identified need for an H-1 lubricant that has a good corrosion inhibitor package, and that is what CorrLube Food Grade Penetrant offers. In addition, we were able to include a bacteriostatic preservative that could address some of the potential issues in certain applications.
NED: What was the length of time from conception to final production?
CC: We are a company that has a very fast turn-around on product development. From the conception to final production in this case was around 12 months.
NED: Did cost factors affect the final design of this product?
CC: Cost is always a consideration in our product development process, but is only one factor. We strive to have best-in-class products for any items that we develop and introduce to the market. As a result, we are not generally the low-cost provider.
NED: Who do you view as the primary users of this lubricant and how will they benefit?
CC: There are two general markets that will benefit from this product.
First, will be the OEMs who are manufacturing equipment for the food
industry. An example would be a company who manufactures food packaging
equipment, and ships globally. Their equipment will be exposed to a
variety of elements during the shipping process and to the point of
installation. This product will allow that equipment to arrive corrosion
free and ready to use for their customers. Combined with our VpCI
packaging products, it offers the easiest to use and most effective
corrosion control for export packaging in the world. The second market
is the maintenance market for food equipment that already in use.
NED: Care to add any other interesting sidelights?
: When we compared to other conventional H-1 lubricants, we found our product to even outperform in lubricating properties. The Corrlube Food Grade Penetrant acts as a tremendous lubricant, and still has the film forming properties to provide extended corrosion protection. These two features generally are difficult to do in the same product, and it is a great achievement by our R&D team.
