In the packaging process, materials contribute significantly to overall packaging costs. A small percentage of change to the product packaging can result in a significant reduction in overall costs.
As part of its focus on lean manufacturing and continuous improvement, Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Franklin Electric Co. creates boxes in-house and on-demand, which has cut costs, reduced waste and contributed to its sustainability initiatives.
The box-making system is a high-speed package-converting machine placed on the pack line. It enables Franklin Electric to produce the right-size box for every product at the time it is needed.
