Brisk sales of the Fusion and Escape drove Ford Motor Co. to its best April since 2007, the automaker said.
Ford's U.S. sales in April were up 18 percent compared with April 2012, according to the automaker, with car sales up 21 percent and trucks and SUVs both up 21 percent.
Sales of the Fusion midsize sedan were up nearly 24 percent year-over-year, from 21,610 units in April 2012 to 26,722 units this April.
Sales of the Escape compact SUV were up 52 percent year-over-year, from 16,986 units in April 2012 to 25,826 units this April.
The Fusion and Escape set April sales records for the respective models, according to Ford.
"We are working harder than ever to keep pace with record demand for our all-new, fuel-efficient Fusion and Escape – with sales growth particularly strong on the coasts," said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. marketing, sales and service.
"F-Series pickups also continue to build on their momentum as the housing and construction industries rebound."
Sales of Ford's F-Series pickups were up 24 percent year-over-year, marking their best April since 2006. Ford sold 59,030 F-Series pickups in April.
