Extech Instruments, a major supplier of test and measurement equipment for the industrial marketplace, announces its newly patented EX470 combination True RMS Multimeter and IR Laser Thermometer. Recipient of US Patent 7, 056, 012, the EX470 is an ergonomically designed multimeter with a built-in non-contact IR Laser Thermometer that provides fast, easy and safe measurements of surface temperatures ranging from -4°F to 520°F (-20°C to 270°C). The EX470 is ideal for a wide variety of applications, including those in locations that are unsafe or difficult to reach.

Extech’s EX470 is an autoranging multimeter with a 4000 count display, o.3% basic DCV accuracy, capacitance and frequency functions, and Type K thermocouple measurements. It is rated CAT III-600V and provides high resolutions measurements, including 0.1mV resolution for AC/DC voltage and 0.1µA resolution for AC/DC current. The IR Thermometer features 8:1 distance to target ratio with 0.95 fixed emissivity.

Measurements are displayed on a large, backlit LCD with 1” digits that are easy to read, even in dim light. Other features include input fuse protection, mis-connection warnings with audible and visible signals, MAX and RELATIVE functions, low current ranges for use with optional current clamp-on adaptors, UL listing and a 3 year warranty. Allowing one-hand operation, Extech’s EX470 comes complete with CAT III test leads, multi-position tilt stand, hanging strap, holster with test lead storage, bead with temp probe, and 9V battery.
