Will 3-D Printing Render the Global Supply Chain Obsolete?

In his 2013 State of the Union address, President Obama declared: "3-D printing has the potential to revolutionize the way we make almost everything."
Could that apply to the manufacturing supply chain?
Ed Morris, director of the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Initiative, believes so.
"Additive manufacturing will democratize the manufacturing process," Morris says.
"In terms of impact on inventory and logistics, you can print on demand. Meaning you don't have to have the finished product stacked on shelves or stacked in warehouses anymore."
